Our Story

Who We Are

Philadelphia Table Company was founded in 2014 by native Philadelphian, Paul Mencel. We specialize in solid wood furniture that is expertly handcrafted by our team of skilled makers. Working directly with homeowners, designers, architects, and business owners, we create warm and elevated spaces with quality, heirloom pieces. 

Every piece we create is crafted by single-maker from beginning to end. This approach champions the unique skills within our team, infuses the artisan’s personal touch, and celebrates the beauty of the natural materials. There’s a sense of pride, ownership, and humanity that’s lost in assembly-line production, so by implementing this design ethos, we strive to bring life and personality back into furniture making. How it Started

Paul began building custom furniture in his garage out of necessity. Unable to find timeless, quality furniture that also fit his specific spatial and design needs, he took matters into his own hands. Over time, his home became filled with his handmade tables, buffets, coffee tables, and cabinets. Soon enough, friends started to ask where he and his wife were finding these beautifully understated pieces. 

Paul began selling handcrafted tables to those friends, who in turn told their friends, and it quickly snowballed into what Philadelphia Table Company is today. He’s grown that one-person operation into a community of incredibly talented makers and expanded out of that humble garage and into a vast 8,000 sf  workshop. Over the last decade, Paul and the team have worked with amazing and inspiring clients not only in Philadelphia area, but nationwide.
